The Questions You Need To Ask For Improved Company Culture

Creating a team is an exciting part of growing your business, but once there, we often meet business owners who experience the struggle of retaining employees, managing productivity and increasing engagement.

A successful team is developed through various factors within a business. A particularly popular employee engagement system is the Gallup Q12 Framework (which you can learn more about here). This framework asks twelve key questions that have been developed by Gallup over a period of more than thirty years.

These questions include:
1. Do you know what is expected?
2. Do you have the materials and equipment to do your work right?
3. At work, do you have the opportunity to do what you do best every day?
4. In the last seven days, have you received recognition or praise for doing good work?
5. Does your supervisor, or someone at work, seem to care about you as a person?
6. Is there someone at work who encourages your development?
7. At work, do your opinions seem to count?
8. Does the mission/purpose of your company make you feel your job is important?
9. Are your associates (fellow employees) committed to doing quality work?
10. Do you have a best friend at work?
11. In the last six months, has someone at work talked to you about your progress?
12. In the last year, have you opportunities to learn and grow?

Identifying the gaps within your business using these questions, can help you to more easily improve company culture, especially if there is a trend of multiple staff identifying poor scores on the same questions. Once you’ve identified the areas that are lacking, you can then work on strategies to improve these results. We’ll share some ideas and activities that can improve company culture in our next blog post.

According to Gallup ‘a staggering 87% of employees worldwide are not engaged.’ It’s a scary statistic, meaning that in most workplaces MOST of the employees are not engaged, resulting in lower than ideal productivity and happiness at work. As a business based on the Gold Coast, and servicing all of South East Queensland, we know this beautiful part of the world can help inspire a supportive culture; however, getting caught up in the day-to-day of running a business means many business owners often forget to prioritise this.

At Tax Strategies Australia, we’re here to help you improve your business, through systems, processes and reviews that take into account the big picture of your business. If you’re worried about the productivity levels of your business, talk to our team today about how we can help.
